Installation begins then stops in TINA v7
Q: TINA v7 installation begins to run then stops, leaving two processes (setup.exe and tina.exe) running. The software is not installed and if you repeat the process, you just get more of the processes left on the machine.
After ending all of the incomplete processes and a re-boot, sometimes the software will install. I have to go in and kill the rundll32 processes on my machine to get the install to work.
A: This is due to a bug in the Installer used in TINA 7 only, already fixed in TINA v8 and v9.
1) In most cases after restarting the computer the Installation (Setup) will go through without any problems. You can also try the same under the Safe mode boot of Windows.
2) Another solution: If the problem occurs, open the task manager terminate the two related processes (setup.exe and tina.exe) and any rundll32 processes running. After this retry the installation.
3) Popup blockers may also cause similar problems. Disabling them temporarily may also help.

What happened to the VHDL button and the VHDL simulation in TINA 10?
Q: In TINA 10, I do NOT see anywhere the so called "VHDL BUTTON" for analysis, where is that located?I also cannot find the Digital VHDL Simulation and the Mixed VHDL Simulation commands on the Analysis menu.
A: The VHDL mode, the VHDL button as well as the Digital and Mixed VHDL simulation commands have been removed in Tina 10, because in Tina 10 digital simulation is equivalent to HDL simulation including both VHDL and Verilog components. Depending on the actual digital components of the circuit VHDL and/or Verilog simulation is applied. For a purely digital circuit including VHDL, Verilog or other built-in digital components select the Digital (DIG button) in the interactive mode or Digital Timing Analysis from the Analysis menu.
Similarly the Transient Analysis now includes mixed HDL analysis for all the analog, digital and HDL components, including VHDL, Verilog, Verilog A & AMS.
For mixed circuits select Transient (TR buttons) to animate the operation or generate diagrams by selecting Transient... from the Analysis menu.
Limitations on the student version
Q: Are there any other limitations on the student version otherthan the number of external nodes (e.g. number of components)?
A: There are no other limitations on the circuit size. However Network Analysis (special RF AC analysis for determining S, H, Z, H etc. parameters)is not allowed, only one parameter is allowed for parameter stepping and optimization and the Parameter extractor is not included. See the comparison table under Version Comparison at http://www.tina.com
How do I export TINA schematics to PCB Layout Editors ?
Q: How do I export TINA schematics to PCB Layout Editors ?I get a 'No Module Name" error when I execute the File/Export/PCB command.
A: To create a valid netlist for any PCB design program you must have correct node lists for all the circuit components. In the node list, each terminal of each component must be tied to the module's pin. Before you begin preparing your circuit file with respect to the netlist, select the PCB library (EDS) corresponding to the layout editor you will use in File | PCB library. The PCB library contains the modules available in the selected system for the components. Next, check each component by clicking on the component then selecting Module Name field and pressing the “…" button. The PCB information dialog box will appear. Choose a module representing the package you wish to use on the printed circuit board. If the Component list is empty, you should check Show all components to locate a component, or add a component to the list. For more information press the Help button on the PCB information dialog box.
There are several examples in the PCB folder of TINA for the supported packages (ORCAD, PROTEL, TANGO, EDS, etc.)
I have ordered the product. Where is the link to download ?
Q: Where is the link to download Tina student? I have already ordered the product.
A: I have checked your order and unfortunately it did not go through, possibly due to a timeout problem on the internet while waiting for credit card processing. Please try again. If your order goes through with a successful credit card charge a confirmation window should appear with the download link which is also sent by email.
I can't make a simple rectifer circuit rectify...
Q: I can't make a simple rectifier circuit rectify...Any tips? The subject seems not to be covered in the Manual.
A: Regarding rectifier circuits it is important to know that they should be analyzed with Transient Analysis mode and NOT with DC or AC Analyses since DC Analysis leaves out the AC voltage component so there is nothing to rectify while AC Analysis uses working point linearization and so in this mode no rectification will occur. So you should run Analysis/Transient here.
Depending on your version load "Bridge rectifier1.TSC" or "Graetz.TSC" from the Examples folder (also attached) of TINA and follow the instructions on the screen.
If you search for Rectifier in the Q&A part of the Technical Support form you can find further information on the subject.

ADC Spice models
Q: I need the Simulation of the AD Converter ADC 0803 from PhillipsI can't find a Spice library on the web. Can you help me to insert this IC into Tina?
A: We are not aware of Spice models for ADCs. We have generic models for ADCs in TINA and suggest to use those.
"ACCESS DENIED". message with project files from a CD.
Q: I do a burn to a CD of myHouse project files then take the CD from the CD burner and put it in my g drive (cd drive) my house finds the files and when click to open a project file the program says "access denied". I know the files are there, but cannot open them.
And by the way I love your program. I do interiors and about 1/2 million a year in sales and all of my cad drawings are done with your program.
A: The files copied from CD are Read Only and this causing the problem. Change their Properties by unchecking the read-only checkbox.
Can we get some examples of the designs you made ?
Difference between TINA and TINA DesignSuite
Q: What is the difference between:TINA Classic Upgrade to 7.0 andTINA Classic Edition Upgrade to 7.0 Design Suite?
A: For all versions the Design Suite editions include integrated PCB design too. Otherwise you can make circut simulation only, with netlist export possibility for PCB design programs other than TINA PCB.
Upgrade to higher versions
Q: I am plannninng to order TINA PRO Classic as the first step, and would like to know, if I can upgrade to TINA PRO Industrial later.
A: No problem, you can upgrade any time to higher versions by just paying the price difference.
TINA program version or edition comparison
Q: I was curious about the difference between the Design Suite and the standard package, I could not find a comparison chart like the one showing the differences between Industrial, Ed,Classic, Student and Basic.
I am just looking to use something for home, to refress skills I have lost since college and have some fun. But I hate running into situations where I can not do something I wantbecause a function has been disabled due to the version I have, since I am not too sure what I will be doing all the time.
A: You can find a comparison chart at http://www.tina.com under Version Comparison
I you do not want too much limitations and but do not wish to buy the most expensive version, I suggest to buy the Classic version with has most features of the software, except S-parameter analysis and Optimization and some other very advanced features. The Basic and Student version have size limitations you can run into. You can upgrade to a higher versions (e.g. to Industrial) any time by paying the price difference.
Activation count has been exceeded
Q: Starting the Software I get the message "activation count has been exceeded". However that cannot be true, since we got the licence on February 2006.
A: You can authorize the software again. Please note however that you have a single user license only, for one computer, so the number of workstations is limited. If you need to use the program on more than on one computer you need to purchase a multi-user license.
SPICE MODEL FOR A GAS TUBE
Q: DO YOU HAVE A SPICE MODEL FOR A GAS TUBE?
A: Unfortunately we do not have that in TINA. You may find one on the internet though and add to your TINA.
It is not clear what you exactly need but I suggest to check: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/login.jsp?url=/iel5/28/32940/01542313.pdf
Upgrade from v7 Basic
Q: Can I upgrade it to Tina Classic Design Suite? In your price list it shows only upgrades from version 6. May I also use my version 7 Basic Design Suite to upgrade to v7 Classic Design suite?
A: You can use the upgrade line from v6 Basic to V7 Classic for the purpose, since v6 and v7 Basic had nearly the same price. Note that the upgrade is not immediate so you may need to wait up to 24 hours while the link arrives. Please add the ref. number of this message Record ID: 06102484B6 to the Note field of your order.
Synchronizing the oscilloscope, PCB design in TINA
Q: Two issues here:1) I can never get the oscilloscope to synchronise - the displayed waveform always moves
ii) Having used your schematic editor and been very pleased with it, I am now looking for somepcb design software. I see the design suite includes this, but can I purchase just the pcb softwareto add to my schematic editor? I am only a small company and dont really need much of the functionality ofwhats included in the larger packages, but do need to create large pcb's with more than 100 pads.
A: 1) By default the oscilloscope is in free (Auto)running mode. To synchronize it, often enough to switch from Auto to Nornal mode, under the Trigger field.
You may also need to click the Source button and select a trigger source, especially for circuits without generator (e.g. an oscillator circuit). I hope this helps, if not pls. email a sample circuit and we will send instructions how to synchronize it.
2) Regarding PCB design, our v7 of TINA includes PCB design and you can upgrade to the same version which just allows your 100 pads for a reasonable price, at http://www.tina.com under ORDER and Upgrade.
Authorization problem through firewall / proxy server
Q: When I try to authorize the software I put my order number in and get a message box that says:
Please ensure you are connected to the internet.
I assume this is because I'm behind a firewall / proxy server.
Could you e-mail a site code I can put in the "other" auth area?
A: Yes this is a well known problem with some firewalls. You should send your site code (see under the Other tab of the Authorization dialog) and we will reply with the Site key to be copied into the Site key field of the same dialog,
Irregular shaped PCB boards
Q: Does the TINA PCB program support irregular shaped boards?
A: Yes you can make any polygon shaped PCBs.
controlled sources with IF statement
Q: I have a question about the controlled source (CCCS,CCVS...)Are there any ways to enter an expression (If statement..mathematical expression, etc) onto the controlled source component?
I know that we can use expressions inside a subcircuit.e.g. E_Tja 100 40 VALUE = {V(80,40)*250*V(90,40)}WHat is the syntax for this kind of expression?I dont find any information in the documentations provided on th web.May you please find them out for me?
A: The schematic controlled sources in TINA are linear. You can use IF statements only in subcircuits only. We will have a GUI for that later on.
Regarding the value statement we support the standard PSpice syntax.
I get an output that is greater than the supply voltage. Why?
Q: Please, take a look at the attached file of an Op Amp circuit. This circuit is straight out of a book for a negative feedback inverting amplifier. The equation for gain at the output is: V out = -Vin (R2/R1) The circuit analysis result proved-out the above ideal equation with apparently some losses (i.e. 99.95V instead of 100V). Is this due to loss?
What I don't understand is where does this voltage come from. The supply voltage is only +/- 15V. How can I get an output that is greater than the supply voltage?
A: In AC mode TINA (and all similar programs) work in linearized mode. Among others, this is needed for calculation of Bode diagrams. This may result higher voltages than the supply voltages because linear circuit do not go into saturation.
If you make a Transient analysis from the Transient menu (set the End display time to 20m)you can see the real waveforms.
You get 99.5V instead of 100V because the Opamp in your circuit is not ideal while the formula you used assumes that.
If you replace the Opamp with an Ideal Opamp (first under the Semiconducors tab) you will get 100V. However this circuit will be then fully linear.

Project file compatibility TINA 9 and TINA 10
Q: I have TINA 9.3 on my PC. and I want to upgrade to TINA 10.0.
I would like to have 9.3 installed and 10.0 installed so I can still run simulations on old 9.3 circuits in 9.3and run new circuits created in 10.0 only in 10.0 ?
Can I still run TINA 9.3 separately after I install TINA 10.0 in a different root directory ?
In other words are TINA 9 and 10 compatible?
Or, do I have to un-install TINA 9.3 before installing Tina 10.0 ?
A: TINA 10 is upward compatible to TINA 9. This means that Tina 10 can load those circuits which you created with Tina 9. However Tina 9 can't load those files which you create with Tina 10. What you can do is to save the files created with Tina 10 in version 7 format (in the Save As dialog select version 7 format) and load it with version 9. It solves this issue in most cases. You can keep v9.3 and continue using it.
Convergence problem -> Transient Convergence Solutions.PRM

Update problem (Access Violation)
Q: Cannot install new update. Program fails with message:Access Violation at address 004F7EDF in module 'update.exe'.Read of address FFFFFFFF
A: This was a bug in the update engine of Tina, it has been fixed in the meantime. I've attached the fixed version, please overwrite it with the same file in the Tina folder.
TINA Windows 7 authorization
Q: I could install TINA V9.3 without any problem. But when I lunched TINA even withadministrator mode, I got pop which said "Please log in to Windows as administrator!" then I could not start session with authorization failure.
A: On W7 installation and authorisation must be done in administrator mode. if you want to authorise click on the Authorise&Trial icon instead of the regular Tina icon (it is in the Tina icon group on the start menu) then press Ok and authorise the software. If it is done you may start Tina normally

authorization ---- VISTA Win7
Q: I open program and i get an error: "Authorization failure! (strme)"
A: You have to be in Administrator mode when Install or Authorize the program.
Another problem that even though you are a user configured as an “Administrator”, Vista treats you as a standard user and is supposed to prompt you to go up to administrator when required.

  1. Please start a file manager (like Windows Explorer) and look for the program executable file (tina.exe or myhouse.exe etc.) It is normally in C:/Program Files/DesignSoft/[program name].
  2. Right-click on the exe file and select "Run as administrator..."
  3. Then authorize the program with your ordernumber, or manually.

After this, you may start the program normally, through the Start menu.
Transient convergence problem >Transient Convergence Solutions.PRM
Q: Whenever I try to run this simulation of the H-Bridge usingMOSFET'a and Diodes on the primary side, I get convergence problems, I can not understand. Convergence problem after ~15% of the simulation time within seconds.
A: I have increased the TR max. iteration number parameter from 20 to 50 and the TR maximum value relative error parameter from 1m to 100m using the Analysis -> Set Analysis Parameters dialog and now the circuit works properly. Please find attached the changed circuit.
Another solution which works: Click the "hand" symbol at the bottom-right corner of the above dialog, and select Open on the pop-up menu. Open the Transient Convergence Solutions.PRM file and close the dialog with OK. With these settings the transient analysis will also work fine, and may do so in case of similar problems.

Use of the same dongle on work and home computers and laptop(s)
Q: I use Tina 9 with a USB Dongle on my tower computer at work. Can I also install on a laptop, and just plug in my dongle on the computer I am using? I would like to work at home, and if I could simply take the dongle home and plug into my laptop I could get more work done.

Rectifier Circuit problem
Q: I have a simple circuit with an AC Voltage source, a transformer and a bridge rectifier. At what should be the DC output, I am able to measure a very low AC voltage and 0 DC Volts when I should be measuring over 600 VDC. Please advise what I am doing wrong or how I should be measuring the Voltage.
A: You should run Analysis/Transient with 20ms or longer analysis time. Probably you used AC analysis which is linear.

Installshield Wizard options after "Check for updates"
Q: When I select "Check for Updates" in the Help menu, after downloading the update an Installshield Wizard appears with several options, and I am not sure which ones to use.
What options should I select?
A: In the Installshield Wizard select "Maintain or Update..." and then "Repair"
If you have several TINA Installations on your computer select the one you want to update, after selecting "Maintain or Update..." You can extend the "Install location field" in the dialog using the bevel at the top and the horizontal scrollbar if it appears.
TINA under linux
Q: Can you supply me a version of Tina v9 for linux (ubuntu12.4.04)?
A: Tina is native windows app, and we do not have Linux version at the moment. What you can do is to install a windows emulator (for example WINE) and use Tina with this emulator. We have several customers who use TINA with WINE. We suggest to upgrade to the latest TINA version. Download the demo to get a discount.
Also our online version see www.tinacloud.com works direcly in Linux in major browsers e.g Chrome and FF.
Hard disk crash, lost software

Transient plot problem for TINA v7 or older versions under Vista and Windows 7
Q: When viewing transient plotfiles on the TR result window, one can click on the variable and change things such as Label, Lower Limit, Upper Limit, etc.
When I try this I get the following popup dialog:
Cannot create file "DiagOpt.tmp" Access is denied
Any idea what the problem is?
Perhaps this is where Tina (Tina-TI in my case) stores these parameters?
A: This looks like a Vista or Windows 7 problem with an older verion of TINA like TINA v7 or older. You should run these versions as Administrator to resolve this problem. Enabling User Account Control (UAC) may also help.
For similar reasons diagrams might not appear under Vista under Vista or Windows 7 and the same solutions apply.
I have ordered the product and paid for it but did not get any download link, do not find where to download

Smartscreen is protecting my computer
Q: I have now downloaded the program but windows is refusing to install.I`m getting a message that Windows Smartscreen is protecting my computer from malicious software. What can I do?
A: This is a false alarm. I does not say malicious software just that Windows could not recognize the manufacturer of the software. This happens with many software. Select more information, Continue or Advanced (depending on your system) and then "Run anyway
I would like to start learning about electronic circuits. Whats a good place to start?
Q: I would like to start learning about electronic circuits. Whats a good place to start?
A: To start learning electronics with TINA you may want to purchase a license to our TINA student version which is just $49 (or EUR depending on your country) for perpetual use or the cloud version of TINA which is just $12 a year.
When you have a license of TINA or TINACloud you can also use our free course on circuit theory at http://www.tina.com/course/course
You can purchase the student version at http://www.tina.com under ORDER and then selecting New Order and Academic at the top.
You can also bundle that with our 1200 Problems & Examples on Circuit Theory and Electronics for $79 Total.
You may also buy a one year subscription of the cloud version at http://www.tinacloud.com just for $12 and optionally purchase the 1200 Problems & Examples on Circuit Theory and Electronics for $29 only at http://www.tina.com
May I use TINA both in the office and at home?
Q: May I use TINA both in the office and at home?
A: Yes our licensing system allows that.
reload TINA in case of PC crash
Q: What if I buy this week Tina and my PC becomes defect. Is there a way to reload the Tina software on another (read my new) PC?
A: Yes of course. First of all it is always worth to archive your download files (normally just 2) to a pen or external drive, like you'd keep your CD save. You can then reinstall your software and authorize with the same key (Order Number) Further we can always send you a new download link once you buy a license. Let me know if you have more questions. What is the best computer and OS to buy for TINA v9?
Q: What it the best hardware and OS for TINA ? I have a circuit that is taking too long to simulate. I'm thinking of buying a new machine, but do not know what hardware and OS makes better use of the TINA.
A: First of all, if you have an older version of TINA (v6, 7 or 8), we suggest to upgrade to v9 of TINA or later versions when they become available. Even on the same machine you may get 5-10 times faster execution, depending on your circuit.
TINA v9 and later versions also support dual, quad , hexa and higher multi-core processors. So if you buy such a machine you may be faster 20 or 50 times or even faster, depending on your circuit. On these machines normally Windows 7 is running, which is finally pretty good and we believe it is the best choice in 2010.

Symbolic analysis is not allowed on this network. What to do ?
Q: I get the error "symbolic analysis is not allowed on thisnetwork" whenever I have a transistor in the circuit. Isthere a specific parameter I need to set? The DC and ACanalysis appears to work fine.
A: In order to execute a symbolic analysis all component models must be linear in the circuit. To select the linear model for the transistor press the ... button in the Type line and then select a model starting with Symb in the Model field on the left.
Note that for circuits with opamps you should use Ideal Operational Amplifiers (the first on the left at the Semiconductors component toolbar.
Importing new components (models) into TINA
Q: Is there a way to import new (other) components (models) from manufacturers or we are limited to the ones that comes with software?
A: Yes you can add Spice components to TINA. It is described in the Quick Start manual. You can find many of them at the manufacturer's (e.g. Motorola, Philips etc.) website. A list of manufacturers with Spice models at their We
Overwritten devices.ddb file
Q: I have accidentally overwritten the devices.ddb file. I looked on the Tina disk (CD) to see if I could find one but could not. Is it possible that you could either give me a download address or return an email with an attached copy? I need to restore this file.
A: Files are compressed on the CD this is why you cannot see the file you need. I suggest to install the program in a different folder and you will the devices.ddb file in the main folder of TINA. I could also email it to you, but I am afraid of a version mixture.
TINA version differences, comparison
Q: Could you please tell me what are the differences between the versions of Tina

Rectifier/regulator circuit problem, I do not get the expected voltages.
Q: Nodal voltages (DC analyses) of Voltregp2.tsc (your sample (/example/subcirc/Voltregp2.tsc) are not calculated correctly, however while using the oscilloscope, it shows the correct values.
A: Regarding rectifier circuits it is important to know that they should be analyzed with Transient Analysis mode and NOT with DC or AC Analyses since DC Analysis leaves out the AC voltage component so there is noting to rectify while AC Analysis uses working point linearization and so in this mode no rectification will occur. So you should run Analysis/Transient here.
The oscilloscope uses Transient Analysis this is why you get good results.
Rectifier problem
Q: I made a simple bridge rectifier circuit and the readouts I am getting from a voltmeter and the oscilloscope do not make any sense. What am I doing wrong?
A: For rectifier circuits you need the use Transient analysis. DC or AC analysis do not work, since DC does not use any AC voltages while AC is a small signal linear analysis. To start with I suggest to load Graetz.TSC from the Examples folder of
